Evening all, after another little hiatus in the Up For Grabs Now train of glory…
A positively splendiferous evening in store tonight, with a full gamut of Premiership games to look forward too. With United seeming to have discovered their typically scary New Year form last night it’s absolutely crucial that we get something out of tonight. Everton are not to be sniffed at at home, even without any strikers, and it’s going to be tough.
Personally I’m just pleased that we appear not to be signing Arshavin, which I never wanted, and that we’ve got the chance to put some points on the board and show a bit of intent. Actual football is always better than all of this transfer malark anyway. I’ll be online throughout, so if you want to hurl abuse, share your thoughts etc (our American friends particularly welcome) then do feel free…

i gotta say (and without wanting to be harsh) i think your team choice is pants. None of the midfield possess much pace, song and denilson tend to play poorly together and your decision to put diaby on the wing stands firmly against your belief that we dont need arshavin. In reality I agree that other positions should be more of a priority (where is our new def mid?) but arshavin would add some depth and if its money that will just find its way into the shareholders pockets then im all for the gamble.
p.s if he chooses your team and we wipe our arses with them then i will grovel for forgiveness

I’d like Nasri to drift into the middle as well, but I just don’t think Arsene will roll like that. Also he won’t play Toure and Gallas together…

I don’t think anyone was really dying to sign Arshavin specifically, but I know that for me, any sign of strengthening the side for the remainder of the season would have been welcome. I’m sure I’ll earn few allies by continuing to insist that Alex Song looks like a pub team player 90% of the time and that, despite what the statistics say, Denilson is an ineffective midfielder (although I will admit he’s stepped up his game since Cesc went down… which furthers my assertion that he’s ill-matched as a holding mid to partner Cesc). And I won’t even mention Eboue, since apparently he can be as awful as he likes but no one can give him stick for it.
I didn’t intend for this to be a rant, but would it be possible to see some investment in the side? A defensive midfielder? Another centre-half that can win a ball in the air? Someone other than Eboue? It’s a bit depressing, and I know the AKB’s out there will be on my back about this, but I only want the best for the club this year. And frankly, a bit of competition for places can only help the younger players, and weed out those who aren’t up to the job.

i think the fact toure and gallas cant play together is a disgrace, with the megabucks they make they should be professional enough and man enough to put those problems aside-hell they should both start just so they can try and out do each other in terms of performance…
looks like arsene has been reading the blog-he starts with your team..but i reckon he will finish with mine and that will be the one to win it

funny you mention fifa 09. first thing i did as in fifa was pick up de jong (before i knew man city would) and henrique, and send gallas packing. barring that, i’d like to see

We Just drew with Everton… The worst game Arsenal ever played. I think we need a spark in the team. Arshavin is the right player to do that with Nasri. We have to spend the cash to make something out this season….

If u guys think arsenal can do with the set of players we have right now, WE MUST BE JOKING….. I do accept the fact that we need a CB and DM, but u guys know Arsene will not spend cash in this transfer window.. All we have to do is face the reality and make him sign ANDREI ARSHAVIN.. This guy will bring back the free flowing football we are use to and the neccessary skills needed in the team……………..

Given how little our midfield creates, we could really have done with Arshavin. Basically we have no creativity at all, just long balls.
I still hope we get him.
