I’m going to put my balls on the block on this one.
Melo hasn’t signed for Juve, as everyone seems to think.
SkyItalia have been stubbornly ‘breaking’ this story pretty much every day this week, and they have shown to be talking complete bollies every time.
It appears that Melo is now in negotiations with both Arsenal and Juventus, and will essentially have to choose between them.
A no-brainer, you might think, but you’ve got to remember that not all footballers have quite the same Anglo-centric perspective on which league is the place to be right now.
I’ve personally never understood the appeal of playing for a club like Juventus, representing confirmed cheats and swindlers in a half-empty and entirely soulless stadium miles outside Turin, but then Trezeguet and Nedved never seemed to mind.

I dont want him to but hell probz move to juv as he said he like playin in the country he is

The fact that we may have to give up Senderos and/or Eboue plus cash seems steep in my opinion. I’d much rather we spend 10M for Lorik Cana while still keeping a little depth. Melo’s a good player no doubt but he hasn’t done enough for me to be worth the 20M that Fiorentina want.

I believe arsenal should go for melo, matuidi is inexperienced, flamini is rusty and cana is a red-card man. Arsene please make a wise decision and go for MELO.
July 8th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
And Melo has had six clubs in six years. A real settler, eh?
July 8th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Fabu-G – Cana is not a “red card man”. He has got 1 red card in the last 3 seasons!! Have a look at his stats!
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=84484&cc=5739
Cana is a far better buy than Melo and is more suitable to our price structure. Wenger wont pay 20m for Melo. Cana is rated at around £6-8mill which is a bargain. We need someone like him with grit, passion and great tackling.

melo is not wat fiorentina r asking 4.and i hope the player is not overestimating his importance.
July 8th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Will we singn Luc Castaignos and Mesut Özil?
July 8th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Oh please pple lets move on from this one,its really pointless to keep dwelling on it coz deep down we bpth know that f we are competing wiv one of the European Giants for a player we have no chance unless the player has stated his amvition as wanting to play for our team and in this case its far from it coz he has stated he would like to play for Juve so lets jus close this one and m,ove on to more likely options
Cana
Matuidi
Inler
and out of these i would have either Inler or Matuidi esp if it means only losing one olayer in a part exchange and that player being Senderos
I am not too keen on losing Eboue at allhe is good back up and does bring alot to the team as he showed in the closing weeks of last season
July 8th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
i really hope that arsenal sign felipe melo because he will bring inspiration to the team he is a great player.
July 8th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
wenger says not interested gokhan inler
July 8th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
i choose gokhan inler , he is the best defensive midfielder
July 8th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
No one has mentioned the short note in the Times today about Arsenal being closer to signing matuidi from st etienne – reckon melo is a side show.
July 8th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Why do you lot all think that someone like cana is better. If he bloody was wenger could have got him in an instance. He has said he would leave if the right offer comes along for the past 2 years, GET OVER HIM, HES S***. If we got matuidi, whats the point when he is just going to block people like song and denilson, not to mention the monster talents we have in the reserves. The option we can get is M.diarra who is everything we need and is up for sale. THINK ABOUT IT.

Your an idiot casicky, how is juve a european giant and arsenal is not? Not only is arsenal in a better league, but they are far superior playing in Europe (champions league) -and being part of the ‘big 4′ in the best league in the world doesnt make Arsenal an attractive club to play for?
Meanwhile juve are not exactly moneybags these days either.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Fabu-G: “Arsene please make a wise decision and go for MELO.”
What is the meaning of this? Arsenal went for the guy. Isn’t that enough wise decision for you? Why must everything be down to Wenger? Is Wenger Arsenal?
Melo & Fiorentina may have decided to go mellowed at Juve, but The Arsenal will always thrash them in the Champion’s League any day. You can bet on that.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
gavin – better than that is hitzlsperger imo. Diarra would be great as well but hes had a big injury recently. Plus he presumably would have to go to the african nations.
Hitzlsperger has the necessary PL and CL experience and the attributes to make a difference for this side.
The only thing about might be the price, but he only has one year left on his contract…
July 8th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
please sm i suppose calling me an idiot makes a point for you hey???purely childuish borderline pathetic what i meant is that Melo has been really successful in a very slow paced league what makes you so sure he wants to try going up a notch to a club that will be pretty much in the Champs lge as well as Juve and no matter what you say Arsenal do not more offer any quarantees compared to Juve jus coz we have reached more semi’s than they have lately in the grand scheme of things it doesnt mean anything…
he is going to go to a club in a league he feels more comfortable and that will be JUVENTUS,dont think its much to do wiv money really money will jus be a bonus
July 8th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
Saw Corvino’s( Fiorentina Director of Sports ) press conference now and showed that Melo is up for sale , but juve did not table an offer yet. Well Arsenal have a good chance in my opinion .I think we should go for this guy , he is a central player we need to challange for tops !!!
July 8th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
Must we continue using Lice in Elephant race? We need melo desperately
July 8th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
melo is probably the best option because he can provide attacking options as well but the problem is eboue cause if he goes we will need a backup rightback but i thunk if it was up to melo he will join juve but we might have an edge as juve are fiorentina’s rival club so they will think twicw before selling them a star player
July 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Why is there this mania about signing an overpriced player that until the transfer window opened, 90% of gunners fans had never heard of. The gutter press decide that we need a defensive midfield player and then trawl Europe for anyone available and link us to him. This would be a bad buy, and I will be shocked if Arsene has even enquired about him, whatever Fiorentina say. Just hold on to this thought, ‘before you loose sleep over us not spending big money on inferior players, the spuds have spent 160 million on players in the last 2 years example Zokora.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Forget hitzelberger and diarra. 1st option if not melo should definetly be more Cambiasso who has 1 year left on his contract but Inter have not started negotiations, might face competition from liverpool but if we get in there early he could be ours.
1. Melo 2. Cambiasso 3. Diarra 4. Borowski 5. Hitzelberger.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
To get Melo and to offload Eboue in the same transaction shows that AW and Gazidis are working their magic. Great move … sign the papers …
July 8th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Fiorentina want too much for Melo and even tho we need some more stability in the back i think we should go for Miguel Veloso of Sporting Lisbon..technical player thats good holding mid with much more flare than melo
July 9th, 2009 at 12:44 am
Faq Melo!and faq juve!am so faqin sick of every little club and one season wonder prostituting arsenal to get a pay hike!melo worth £21.5?…now the cocksukas in turin want not only cash but sendy and eboue on top of that?faq em all!n if anyone out there agrees to this, dont stop there, give them the emirates, faqin buckinham palace and robie willams too!!!
July 9th, 2009 at 8:34 am
Wenger will probably conjure up an unknown and send a two-finger sign to all of them and us。Good luck to him ‘cos this year we’re gonna steamroll over EVERYONE。Just feel it in my old bones。
July 14th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
melo is all arsenal need now what ever he cost let us get him
July 14th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
melo is all we need now let us get him at all cost
